So we left Orlando and I’ll just briefly say something is wrong with our transmission and leave it at that. I needed to get to my cousins for Presidents’ Day weekend and we were meeting up about an hour south of Manhattan at her brother’s house.
I had to drive over 1000 miles in 6 days (with a bad transmission). The kids opted for longer days with breaks in between. We really needed a break after going straight through in Orlando.
We went to Savannah, first. We headed to the (cold) Beach first. Probably the last beach of the trip. We said our goodbyes. I wanted the explore but the two oldest just wanted to veg out, so Harm and I explored Savannah a bit on our own.
We continued onto the Carolinas and then spent two days in Virginia, prepping ourselves for the big week in NYC. It was a great rest at a wonderful campground. Still haven’t hit too much bad weather. I’m doing my best to get plenty of rest when I can.
We drove on to New Jersey….
Worst drive so far. I try to stick between 225-300 miles when I drive and this was less than 300, but it was stop and go through DC and Baltimore (the worst place on earth). Not fun with a bad transmission. Traffic and very bad roads, potholes, a very long day and it was windy.
I met up with my cousins and it was great. We headed into Manhattan the next day and explored lower Manhattan and had lunch in Chinatown.
The next day, we went to Times Square and Hells Kitchen.
I never had to drive on either of these days and it looked stressful. There is ONE RV park in Jersey City right across from NYC. I decided that instead of the stress of driving in everyday from a free driveway, I’d rather just do it once with the RV and park there and not have to worry about it.
So we spent one day of relaxing in NJ (at the end of the weekend when my cousin left). I spent the entire day looking for someone in Philadelphia to fix the transmission (our next stop). I cried a few times, it’s very difficult to find people to fix RVs. I also got laundry done. I’m getting a little tired of picking up and leaving so often, and I’m especially getting tired of trying to find people to help fix the RV. I’m actually a little excited about going home in a couple months.
So today I had to drive into the big bad city in the RV. Luckily, I only had to drive an hour (two hours in RV time) so I wasn’t stressed after a long day of driving. The traffic wasn’t horrible, but it was a lot of turns and going right to go left and scary! Also…the streets were so tight I hit a couple of posts (while stradling the other lane!) and made it into the RV park! Now I can spend the rest of the week here with NO driving, visit my other cousins (and pace myself a little) and finish “seeing New York City” and say that I’ve done it (and move on with my life).
Harmony’s Corner
First, we went up to Savannah, Georgia. Our RV Park had a beautiful beach. My mom and I Spent a day in Savannah and I had the worlds best grilled cheese. Since we have a cousin named Savannah, we got her a post card that says Savannah Georgia On It.
Then we were on our way to our cousins brother’s house we were gonna meet up with our cousins there. We went to New York City with them. The first day Of New York City we did the old part of New York City. The second day of New York City we did the new part. (M&M store, a secret store I’m about to tell you about, and TV screens, Etc…) Now the secret store is the Nintendo store. It might sound like a boring place but it is extremely fun. There is a 3DS you can play on and Mario Cart and last but not least, building games. But those are just the games in the Nintendo store. There is a little shell pillow. Also there is just basically Nintendo Merchandise.
Our last night at our cousins brothers house, my mom had told him that I play the violin so he taught me how to play the mandolin. It’s a mix between a violin and a guitar. There’s four strings like a violin there is a pick, but the thing is it would be to quiet to have one string so it’s two strings. Then you just use the pick. (If you are on a device, zoom in on me.)
I think one day you will look back on this whole trip and see it as one of the best times of your whole life….I always read your blog…love it!
